Volunteers!
So many parents and extended family members volunteer their time and
efforts to help the band. First Colonial High School and especially the
band families have a reputation for "volunteerism." Please take a moment
to download a form and record your volunteer time, whether you are
chaperoning, building, assisting, whatever. Turn your sheet into Kathy
Davenport or any Booster Board Member. We will take these sheets and
consolidate the hours to report to the school.

Band Booster Leadership
2006 - 2007
Feel free to contact any of the booster officers or committee
chairs with your questions. We welcome everyone to be active with the boosters.
Contact one of us and tell us how you would like to help out -- even if it's
just for an hour or two. Together we can all make a big difference in our
students' experiences in band.
Committees
Volunteers are always needed - please
contact one of the board members or committee chairs to offer your
assistance!
Objectives of the FC Band Boosters
-
To arouse and maintain an
enthusiastic interest within the school and the community in the
various phases of the Instrumental Music Program of First Colonial
High School.
-
To lend all possible support, both moral
and financial, to the overall band program on behalf of the Instrumental
Music Program of First Colonial High School.
-
To cooperate with those in charge of the
Instrumental Music Program, the Administration of First Colonial High
School, and the Virginia Beach School Board, to the end that this program
shall maintain the highest degree of efficiency.
-
To build and maintain an organization
that will help promote the general activities of the Instrumental Music
Program.
-
The above objectives are the only
objectives of this organization and this organization shall have no voice in
the administration of the Instrumental Music Program.
Activities
The Band Boosters support a wide variety of activities that
compliment the FCHS Band Program. Participation is voluntary and we
encourage every family to come out and assist in any area of interest to them.
We appreciate your help!
These are just a few of the many activities the Band Boosters assist with:
-
Fundraising -
Annual fruit sale, car washes, mulch sale, and more.
-
Hospitality - Meals and refreshments for band activities.
-
Travel & Transportation - Arrangements for
transportation and accommodation for performances and activities, plus the
annual trip.
Truck rental to transport equipment to competition. Maintenance of trailer.
-
Uniforms - Fitting & assignment, maintenance and repair
of Marching Band, Color Guard, Symphonic Winds, Jazz Band, Percussion
Ensemble, etc.
-
Equipment - Band, Color Guard and Ensembles.
Includes our very own "Pit Crew" during Field Show competitions
and football games. The Band Booster "Game Crew" sets up the band
area in the stands before each home football game.
-
Communications - Newsletter, correspondence, website, phone
list & bingo call tree, etc.
-
Ombudsman - Recruitment and orientation of
Band Booster members.
Volunteers
At the end of marching band rehearsal, the entire ensemble
comes together. Led by the Drum Major and Guard Captains, the group roars
through an amazing cheer. It begins with "Is the Band Ready?"
and finishes with "Carpe Diem!" This group of students is full of
pride and teamwork. They give the band program their heart and soul.
Off to the side stands a group of parents and
friends looking on - the Band Boosters - a little tired, a bit worn out but very
proud of these outstanding students!
Every year the Band Boosters work to support
these students to be all that they can be. As you can see by our list of
Band Booster committees, there are lots of areas the band needs Booster
support. Without a strong group of parent volunteers, much of this program
would not come together. We need your help in a variety of ways.
Please volunteer your time and talents!
We look forward to your involvement! Call
one of our Band Booster Leaders and let them know how you can help.
